Overview of the task

• You will be given an essay question that presents a topic and a position or a statement

• You will have 40 minutes to complete the task

• You will have to write at least 250 words

• You will be marked on four criteria: task response, coherence and cohesion, lexical resource and grammatical range and accuracy

 

Breakdown of what you need to do

• Analyse the essay question and identify the type, topic and task

• Plan your essay and organise your ideas into paragraphs

• Write an introduction that paraphrases the question and gives your opinion or position (if required)

• Write two or three body paragraphs that support your opinion or position with arguments, examples, evidence or counterarguments

• Write a conclusion that summarises your main points and restates your opinion or position

• Check your essay for accuracy, coherence, vocabulary and grammar
